Grow or Go. It's the challenge
of every closely-held and family company.
There's nothing wrong
with slow-growth, life-style businesses that exist
soley for the benefit of their owners. However,
most enterprises must grow to
gain critical mass, lower costs, keep pace with consolidating
customers and suppliers, maintain competitiveness, attract
and retain key employees,
and satisfy the needs and return expectations of outside
shareholders and/or ever-growing generations of family
members.
That said, all companies—and their owners—have
life-cycles. And, at a certain point, it may
be time to go. Exit occurs
at a natural point in most closely-held companies',
and shareholders', lives. However, it may occur earlier
when rapid growth requires the resources of outside
investors, or when slow growth suggests that it might
be time to retreat, etc. Exit should take
place when a company's prospects remain bright, when
potential acquirers are plentiful, and when a company's
shareholders are able to sell
those prospects at a premium.
David N. Deutsch & Company assists closely held
and family enterprises in planning for and financing
growth (organically and through acquisition), through
Strategic Tune-Ups™, private placements
of debt and equity, and well orchestrated acquisitions.
When it's time to go, no one thinks harder,
cares more, or guides its clients more effectively
than we do—corporate sales are our
specialty. We don't
merely process corporate sales; we manage them
to successful completion... confidentially, expediently,
with a view toward optimal structure and maximum after-tax
value. And, when a sale isn't
right, we advise against such transactions and/or
provide our clients with alternatives including partial
sales, staged exits, recapitalizations, ESOPs, etc.
Grow
or Go? We'll help you assess your
alternatives, prepare for
the transaction, and get the job done.
